Onyx is a banded, translucent stone. Lit from behind it glows honey, green, white or red; lit from the front it reads as a rich polished surface. Semi-precious panels are made of agate, amethyst, jasper and other crystals set together on a backing.
Both are soft and delicate compared with granite. Use them for feature walls, bar and reception fronts, vanity fronts and table tops, not for floors or busy kitchen countertops.
