About this stone
Unlit, Brown Onyx is dense and dark: rust-brown and chocolate zones with faint horizontal bands and a fine net of cream crackle veins. With backlight the brown opens into amber and the bands show through, so the lit and unlit looks are very different.
It suits bar fronts, backlit walls, reception desks and lighting features in warm, darker schemes. Thick dark areas pass less light, so the panel glows unevenly, which some people want and others do not. It is soft and acid-sensitive, so keep it off kitchen counters, floors and outdoor walls.
Care
Clean with a pH-neutral stone soap and wipe spills, especially lemon, vinegar and juice, straight away. Backlit panels are usually fitted with a glass or mesh backing as the installer advises, and the face is resealed on a regular schedule.
