About this stone
Rosso Sicilia is a fairly even brick-red with soft cloudy shading and short white veins scattered across it like pencil strokes. It reads warm and steady, so it can cover more area than the busier reds without taking over a room.
It suits borders and inlays in cream or beige floors, stair treads and risers, window sills and door thresholds, and table tops. Polished, the red deepens; honed, it turns softer and more earthy. Like many red marbles it can fade in strong direct sun and it marks with acids, so it is better kept indoors and away from the kitchen counter.
Care
Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and keep lemon, vinegar and strong sprays off it. Reseal about once a year, more often on a tabletop.
Better avoided for
- Kitchen countertops
- Outdoor & facades
